What did Jennifer Jason Leigh reportedly think of Marriage Story?
In a November 2019 report, Vanity Fair said Baumbach had shown Leigh the screenplay and the finished film. He described her reaction as: “She likes it a lot.” Vanity Fair attributed that account to Baumbach’s comments in the Wall Street Journal.

The distinction matters: the available report tells us what Baumbach said Leigh thought; it does not give Leigh’s own words. There is no direct public statement from her about the film in these sources.
Why was Leigh shown the film?
Baumbach and Leigh were formerly married, and Marriage Story centers on a marriage ending while a family tries to stay together. Netflix describes the 2019 film as a portrait of that breakup and its effects on the family. Given the subject, audiences could naturally draw parallels to Baumbach’s life.

No. In the same interview, Baumbach said, “It’s not about my marriage in any way.” His comments support a careful distinction: he anticipated that viewers would connect the film to his former marriage, but he rejected the idea that it was a direct account of it.
