April Bowlby described working on Two and a Half Men as a pleasure. She said Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer helped her find ways to make jokes work during rehearsals, and later recalled Sheen as laidback and dry-humored in their off-camera conversations. Those are Bowlby’s accounts of her own experience—not a claim about every day on set or everyone who worked there.
What April Bowlby said about working with Charlie Sheen
In an August 2011 interview with FAULT Magazine, Bowlby spoke positively about the show’s cast and its rehearsal process. She said that when she could not get a joke to work, she would ask Sheen or Cryer for help. They offered different ways to say or perform it, she recalled, and the collaboration made the experience feel cohesive.
“The whole experience of it was such a pleasure,” Bowlby said. Her comments describe practical support with the comedy, rather than a broad assessment of Sheen’s personality or conduct.
How the rehearsal and live-performance routine worked for her
Rehearsals felt collaborative
Bowlby said the cast rehearsed Monday through Thursday, working through the show from beginning to end and trying different ideas. She likened the routine to doing a play and praised the cast’s talent. Her description suggests a structured process in which performers could adjust jokes together before the audience performance.

Friday performances brought immediate audience reactions
She recalled Fridays as live-audience performances, where laughter and other reactions arrived in the moment. Bowlby called the energy “the most insane chaos you could ever have” and said it was magical. That recollection helps explain what she enjoyed about the work beyond her exchanges with Sheen and Cryer.
What Bowlby later said about Sheen off camera
In a February 2021 interview with Cream Magazine, Bowlby was asked whether Sheen seemed wild on set. She answered by describing their off-camera conversations: “When we chatted [off-camera], he was actually laidback with a very dry, raw sense of humour.” She also said Sheen and Cryer were charismatic together.

That qualification matters: Bowlby was talking about the conversations she had with Sheen, not asserting that he behaved the same way in every setting or with every person.
How she characterized the set when she joined
In the same 2021 interview, Bowlby said the show was “at its peak” when she entered and described it as “a well-oiled machine with everyone getting along.” This is her retrospective impression of the production at the time she joined. It complements her 2011 account of a supportive rehearsal process, but does not establish that every person had the same experience.

How to read her comments
- Her reported experience was positive: in 2011, she called the overall experience a pleasure.
- Her specific example was collaboration: she said Sheen and Cryer offered suggestions when she was having trouble with a joke.
- Her description of Sheen was context-specific: in 2021, she remembered him as laidback and dry-humored in off-camera chats.
- Her account is personal, not universal: the two interviews establish what Bowlby said about her experience, not the conditions of every interaction on the set.
A July 2011 BroadwayWorld interview provides career context and discusses Bowlby’s work with Cryer on the show, but does not offer a comparably direct account of her feelings about Sheen. The clearest answer comes from Bowlby’s own comments in FAULT and Cream.
