Bayardo De Murguia said voicing Rodolfo Parra in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II made him proud because it let him portray a capable Mexican soldier loyal to his country, rather than a character defined by the corrupt-or-suspicious stereotype he associated with Hollywood portrayals of Mexicans. He also valued the actors’ freedom to contribute to the story.
Who Bayardo De Murguia played in Modern Warfare II
De Murguia voiced Rodolfo Parra, a Mexican soldier in the game’s campaign. In a GamesBeat interview, he recalled being a longtime Call of Duty fan and said the opportunity to portray a Mexican soldier alongside Colonel Alejandro Vargas felt “really cool.” GamesBeat’s interview with Bayardo De Murguia is the source for his account.
The game’s official announcement identifies Alejandro Vargas as a Mexican Special Forces character and places him in the campaign with returning Task Force 141 characters. That establishes the fictional setting, not a factual account of Mexico or its institutions. Call of Duty’s official Modern Warfare II announcement describes the game context.
Why the role made him proud
De Murguia said the portrayal differed from what he called a familiar Hollywood stereotype: Mexicans shown as corrupt or untrustworthy. He appreciated playing soldiers whose loyalty was to their country and what they were fighting for. As he put it, “It was outside of the stereotypical Hollywood thing where we’re corrupt, or you don’t know. We were just soldiers that were loyal to their country and what they fight for. And I thought that was really cool to be able to portray that.”

That is De Murguia’s personal view of the role and its significance. It should not be taken as a consensus among Mexican or Mexican American audiences, or as a broader assessment of how the game represents them.
What actor input meant to him
De Murguia also valued the latitude performers had to help shape the story. He said that freedom made the actors prouder of what they were telling: “Having that liberty makes us as the actors more proud of the story that we’re telling.”

He described the campaign’s Mexican soldiers as standing by one another and continuing to fight for their country and people amid corruption and violence in the fictional setting. He summarized that idea as: “The storyline of how us as Mexican soldiers — we live and we fight for our country, we fight for our city.” These are his interpretations of the game’s story, not claims about real Mexican military or political institutions.
His connection to video games
In the same interview, De Murguia said he was born in Tijuana and learned English around age eight or nine in part by repeating lines from video games. He named Blades of Steel as an early example and said he had wanted to become a video-game voice actor. That background helps explain why landing a role in a series he already liked mattered to him, while his stated pride in Parra centered on the character’s portrayal and the performers’ creative latitude.

How the game’s official material frames its campaign
Call of Duty’s later Season 03 post continues the game’s characterization of Alejandro and its campaign world. Like the original announcement, it is official material about the fictional game; it does not independently establish De Murguia’s interpretation of representation. Call of Duty’s Season 03 update provides that later context.
