What Jourdan Blue said about homelessness as a teenager
In an interview published August 18, 2025, Blue told People, in an interview syndicated by AOL, that he was homeless at 16 while struggling with addiction. He said he stayed with friends and at times slept in a workplace bathroom.
Blue’s account in that interview does not specify how long he was homeless or provide independent confirmation of the circumstances. The reporting also does not name the substance involved or describe a treatment history.
His account of an overdose and stopping substance use
Blue told People, “I ended up overdosing.” He said the overdose happened when he was 18 and that afterward he stopped using substances. “I quit cold turkey — stopped everything. It was hard, but the reward was so much bigger than the struggle,” he said.

Those remarks describe Blue’s personal experience; the interview gives no clinical details about the overdose or the substances involved. His account should not be read as medical advice or as a claim that stopping substance use without support is safe or suitable for other people.
The role Blue credited to his grandfather
Blue said his grandfather took him in and supported his interest in music. In a separate August 19, 2025 interview with Parade, Blue described a later change in their circumstances: he said he had his own place and his grandfather stayed with him, calling it “a blessing to be able to return the favor.” That statement reflects what Blue said at the time of the interview, not necessarily his present living situation.

From street performing in New Orleans to AGT
In the Parade interview, Blue described street performing in New Orleans before getting an opportunity to appear on America’s Got Talent (AGT). He presented the show as a chance to pursue performance beyond the street. Parade’s audition coverage reports that he sang “Breakeven” by The Script and received Howie Mandel’s Golden Buzzer.

In the same August 2025 Parade interview, Blue spoke about becoming a father and wanting his son to have stable housing. “I want to know that I’m going to be able to raise my son in a house, have comfort, and that he’ll never have to sleep in a bathroom,” he said. The remark connected his hopes for his child with his own account of sleeping in a workplace bathroom during homelessness.
