Hoda Kotb said she went on a third date with the man she had been seeing, then chose to table the romance because she wanted more simplicity. Her August 2024 comments described a pause, not a confirmed permanent breakup. In later remarks reported in July 2026, she emphasized emotional connection and consideration.
Why Hoda Kotb tabled the romance
Kotb discussed the dating experience during an August 20, 2024 appearance on The Jamie Kern Lima Show. Us Weekly reported that she had gone on a third date with the man, whom she called a lovely person, but felt he had things still being worked out. Kotb said she could fall into the role of fixer and had decided she wanted a simpler relationship.
“That has been tabled beautifully, like, nothing funky, all good,” she said. The account does not establish that the relationship was permanently over. Asked whether she had met anyone else since taking a break from him, Kotb replied, “Not yet.” Us Weekly’s August 20, 2024 report attributed the remarks to the interview.
What she said she wanted from a partner
Kotb described wanting someone “adding and not subtracting” from her life. She said her free time was limited and she wanted to spend it with a person who added to it. The comments reflected her priorities at that moment, rather than a formal checklist for dating.

The interview was Part 1 of a two-part episode released August 13, 2024. The publisher’s announcement said the conversation covered why Kotb ended her eight-year engagement, how she viewed future love, and the space she had for dating. The episode announcement lists the interview’s subjects.
What Kotb said about dating in 2026
In a July 2026 appearance on her YouTube series Joy Rides, with guest Michelle Buteau, Kotb spoke about the importance of emotional connection. “All I care about is emotional connection, a real connect,” she said. TV Insider also reported that Kotb valued considerate behavior, including the kind of gentlemanly conduct she grew up seeing from her father. These were her personal preferences, not a rule for what anyone should seek in a partner.
