After her 2020 dismissal from Below Deck Mediterranean, Hannah Ferrier moved away from yacht work and into family life in Sydney, media projects and later live events connected to yachting. Her firing was a turning point, but her own account shows a wider transition already underway: she was preparing to become a mother and had decided not to return for another season.
Why Hannah Ferrier left Below Deck Mediterranean
Ferrier was dismissed during Season 5 in an episode aired in August 2020. In its contemporaneous account, Bravo reported that Captain Sandy Yawn did not feel comfortable taking Ferrier to sea after being told she had unregistered Valium and a vape pen aboard. That describes the circumstances presented in the episode; it is not a medical finding.
Ferrier told Bravo she was sad about the way her five years with the show ended, while also saying, “I’m honestly leaving very proud of myself. My family and my friends are proud of me and what I achieved.” She had already said she would not return for another season and was considering what came next.
Motherhood and a home in Sydney
Ferrier and her partner, Josh Roberts, were expecting their first child in 2020. In August that year, Ferrier said they were expecting a girl. Their daughter, Ava, was born in October. The couple married in Sydney in March 2022, after buying a home there in 2021, according to Bravo’s August 2026 update.

When Ferrier made a cameo in Season 11 in August 2026, she summed up the changes since viewers had last seen her: “My life has done an entire 180 since you last saw me.” She added, “I got married. We bought a house. I had my beautiful daughter Ava.”
Projects built around her experience
A podcast about her teenage diaries
In 2020, Ferrier launched Dear Diary, You’re Effed!, a podcast with Sydney-based reporter Justin Hill. They read and joked about Ferrier’s teenage diary entries, and listeners were invited to send in their own. The project turned a personal archive into a new media venture after her time on the show.

An online yacht-training venture
Ferrier also partnered with fellow Below Deck Mediterranean alum Anastasia Surmava to launch Ocean International Training Academy. The online academy aimed to help people considering yacht careers understand the industry and prepare for a job. Bravo’s 2026 update reported that the academy had announced it was shutting down, so it is a past venture rather than a currently operating school.
Media work and live events
In April 2025, Bravo reported that Ferrier was represented by The Digital Renegades, an agency that described her work across television, training, parenting, lifestyle, business and digital media. The same report noted her January 2025 post marking 15 years in yachting. In a separate 2025 report, Bravo said Ferrier and Captain Sandy had privately reunited and were traveling around America for City Cruises live fireside chats. By August 2026, Bravo described Ferrier hosting “spills the tea at sea” appearances through City Cruises Live, answering questions about her yachting life aboard yachts. What she misses about yachting—and what she does not
Ferrier’s reflections are not simply a rejection of her former career. She said the strongest thing she missed was the closeness of life aboard: “The one thing I miss about yachting is you just form these bonds that are very hard to find in other places in your life.”
But she does not miss “the hours, the small bunks, having no choice about what you eat, the hierarchy.” Her comments draw a clear distinction between the camaraderie she valued and the demanding, tightly controlled conditions of yacht work.

A return to the show, on different terms
Ferrier’s August 2026 cameo was her first appearance on Below Deck Mediterranean in six years, according to Bravo. She returned to the show’s orbit as a parent and media personality with a life ashore—not as someone resuming yacht employment. The contrast with her difficult exit gives the appearance its significance: the series that documented one chapter of her life briefly caught up with her after it had changed direction.
