What the trailer shows
In Lucasfilm’s April 16, 2026 final-trailer description, Colonel Ward presents Din Djarin and Grogu with a mission to hunt Imperial war criminals and protect the peace won in the New Republic era. The described dangers include ruthless bounty hunters and the Hutt Twins; the Anzellans also appear among the trailer’s encounters. The official trailer article frames Grogu’s coming-of-age as part of the story he shares with his adoptive father.
Earlier promotional footage offered other glimpses, not a definitive inventory of the finished film. Lucasfilm’s September 2025 teaser article noted a new Razor Crest, Grogu with Anzellan friends and New Republic characters facing Imperial-remnant threats. Its February 2026 trailer update described Zeb Orrelios flying for the New Republic, a Kyuzo bounty hunter and an Ardennian fry cook voiced by Martin Scorsese.

The film’s premise and cast
Lucasfilm’s synopsis places the story after the Empire’s fall, when Imperial warlords remain scattered across the galaxy. The fledgling New Republic turns to legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu to help protect what the Rebellion fought for.
Jon Favreau directed and co-wrote the film; Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor are also credited as writers. Pedro Pascal plays Din Djarin, Sigourney Weaver plays Colonel Ward, and Jeremy Allen White plays Rotta the Hutt. Ludwig Göransson composed the score. The final-trailer article also quotes an elder Mandalorian: “The old protect the young, and then the young protect the old.”
