What happened to the $HAWK token?
The token launched on December 4, 2024, in association with Welch and the web3 launchpad OverHere Limited. According to investor case materials from Wolf Popper LLP, $HAWK had a reported presale valuation of $16.69 million and reached a reported market capitalization of $491 million shortly after launch, before falling by more than 90% within hours. These market-cap figures describe reported valuations, not individual investors’ realized losses or proof of misconduct. The headline description that Welch was “horrified” comes from a May 6, 2025 report. Its page was not accessible in the cited materials, so no further exact quotation from that report can be verified here.
What did Welch say about her role?
Her December 2024 response
After the collapse, Welch said she was cooperating with the legal team representing affected people and wanted to help uncover the truth, hold responsible parties accountable, and resolve the matter. That was her stated position, reported at the time by The Block.

Her account of the agency inquiries
In a podcast account reported by The Block in May 2025, Welch said the FBI questioned her after visiting her grandmother’s home and that she provided her phone to the SEC. She said both agencies cleared her. The Block also reported her claim that she lacked sufficient crypto knowledge, trusted the wrong people, received a marketing fee, and did not profit from the token itself. These are statements attributed to Welch; the cited materials do not include an official SEC or FBI notice confirming an investigation’s closure or her clearance.
Welch was quoted as saying, “I did not have enough knowledge about crypto to be getting involved with it and I knew that, but I got talked into it.” She also said, “I trusted the wrong people that screwed me.” Those remarks are her account of her knowledge and relationships, not a court finding about the conduct of any other person.

What did the investors’ lawsuit allege?
Investors filed an initial complaint on December 19, 2024, alleging that $HAWK was offered as an unregistered security. Contemporary coverage said the initial complaint named project-related defendants, claimed more than $151,000 in investor losses, and did not name Welch as a defendant. The claimed loss figure is not a court-verified damages award. The Block’s December 2024 reporting covered the filing.
The case description changed as litigation progressed. Wolf Popper reports that on April 23, 2025, a lead plaintiff and co-lead counsel were appointed. A Burwick Law update dated March 30, 2026 describes an amended class action naming Welch and others and says the case was pending. What is known about the case now?
The latest litigation status identified in the cited materials is Burwick Law’s March 30, 2026 update, which describes the amended class action as pending. The court docket was not checked after that update, so a later development cannot be ruled out. Nor do the materials establish that a court has found Welch or any other defendant liable.
It helps to keep four different kinds of statements separate: reported market-cap figures describe token valuations; investor-loss figures are plaintiffs’ claims; allegations in complaints are not court findings; and Welch’s account of agency inquiries is not the same as an official agency statement.
