The interview did not lead to a stated ban on Don Lemon publishing on X. It did precede the collapse of a planned commercial partnership between X and The Don Lemon Show: Lemon said Elon Musk canceled the deal because of their interview, while X said it had decided not to enter a commercial partnership and that Lemon’s show could still publish on the platform.
What was canceled—and what was not
In January 2024, X announced a content partnership with The Don Lemon Show. The plan, as reported by the Associated Press, called for 30-minute episodes three times a week covering politics, culture, sports and entertainment. The arrangement did not proceed.
The distinction matters: X’s statement described a decision not to enter a commercial partnership, not a prohibition on Lemon posting the program. X said the show remained welcome to publish content on the platform. The AP reported that Lemon released the Musk interview on X on March 18, 2024.
Why did Musk cancel the show?
Lemon’s account was that Musk canceled the partnership after their interview. He connected the decision to the conversation and publicly characterized Musk as angry with him. X, in its public explanation, said it had decided not to enter a commercial partnership with the show.

Those accounts establish that the planned deal ended after the recorded interview and that the two sides described the decision differently. They do not independently prove Musk’s private motive. The most accurate summary is that Lemon attributed the cancellation to the interview, while X framed it as a business decision.
What did Lemon and Musk discuss?
The interview was intended as the debut episode of Lemon’s planned show. The AP’s March 19 recap described a conversation that covered:
Rank #2
- Immigration and its political consequences.
- Content moderation, including its benefits and harms.
- Musk’s reported symptoms of depression and his ketamine use.
- X’s responsibility for moderating hate speech, including the “great replacement theory.”
In the moderation exchange, Lemon asked Musk about X’s responsibility for addressing hate speech. Musk responded that he did not have to answer reporters’ questions and said he was participating because Lemon was on X and had asked him. The interview’s subject matter gives context to the dispute, but the reporting does not establish that any particular question was the reason the partnership ended.
