Jeff Bezos appears in Star Trek Beyond as a heavily made-up Starfleet Official, so his face is difficult to recognize. The brief cameo comes after Kalara is rescued: he helps prepare her for an auto-translated conversation, tells her, “Speak normally,” and walks out of the shot.
What Bezos looks like in the film
Bezos is credited as a Starfleet Official. Alien prosthetic makeup substantially obscures his face, making the cameo less a recognizable celebrity appearance than a small part in the film’s alien-filled world. The Washington Post’s 2016 coverage identified him in the role and noted the transformation; co-writer Doug Jung later recalled that Bezos was “in a ton of alien makeup” during filming. The Washington Post’s report includes a caption identifying him as the Starfleet Official.
Where to find the cameo
After the rescue of Kalara, played by Lydia Wilson, Bezos’s official helps her prepare for an interview with Captain Kirk and a Starfleet officer using an auto-translator. He tells her, “Speak normally,” then exits the frame. GeekWire estimated the appearance at about eight seconds and placed its beginning around 13:12. Treat that as an approximate playback position: logos, edits, and release versions can shift the timestamp. GeekWire’s 2016 account describes the scene and its location in the film.
Why Bezos took the role
Bezos said he had sought a part in a Star Trek movie for years. He was willing to wear extensive makeup, but wanted a speaking role in a scene central enough to the story that it would be less likely to be cut. Director Justin Lin gave him the part in Kalara’s preparation scene. Bezos later called the experience “super-fun” and a “bucket list item.” GeekWire reported Bezos’s account of how the cameo came about.

Bezos’s earlier connection to Star Trek
Bezos has described playing Star Trek with neighborhood friends when he was in fourth grade. He also said the franchise’s ship computer influenced his vision for Alexa: “Our vision was, in the long term, it would become the ‘Star Trek’ computer.” The Washington Post reported those remarks from a 2016 technology conference interview.
