What did Easton say about leaving?

How did Finn leave the story?
In the on-screen storyline, the death of Finn’s father contributed to depression and a relapse. Finn left for rehabilitation in a stint that TVLine reported was expected to last three months. That was the character’s story setup; it was not an announcement by Easton that he planned to return after that period.
Was Easton’s exit final?
In a July 5 interview report, TVLine quoted Easton saying he felt there was finality to the exit, including for him personally. He also said he wished he could have played the rapid departure with more subtlety and nuance. His comments describe how he viewed the exit at the time; they do not establish whether he could return in the future.

Easton first joined the show in 2012 as John McBain. After rights issues prevented the continued use of One Life to Live characters, he later returned in new roles, playing Silas Clay before Hamilton Finn. ABC’s 2016 announcement confirmed his return as a new character. His time on the series was on and off, rather than one uninterrupted run.
