The confirmed leads are Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Official announcements also name a large supporting cast. Two roles—Ginny Weasley and Gilderoy Lockhart—appear under conflicting season labels in official releases, so their season assignments remain unclear.

What later-season castings have been announced?
In a September 15, 2026 announcement, HBO Max Spain named these additional performers:
- Rafe Spall as Arthur Weasley
- Molly Hewitt-Richards as Myrtle (Moaning Myrtle in English-language character naming)
- Jasper Ambrose as Colin Creevey
The same release separately labeled the following as new second-season cast:
Rank #2
- Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart
- Bonnie Hill as Ginny Weasley
- Lenny Rush as Dobby
- Billy Barratt as Tom Riddle
Why are Ginny Weasley’s and Gilderoy Lockhart’s seasons unclear?
The official announcements do not agree on season assignments for these two roles:
- Ginny Weasley: The September 2, 2026 season-one roster lists Gracie Cochrane as Ginny. A September 4 official announcement places Bonnie Hill’s Ginny in season two while repeating Cochrane among previously announced cast. The September 15 release also calls Hill a new second-season cast member.
- Gilderoy Lockhart: The September 2 roster lists Kit Harington as additional season-one cast, while the September 15 release presents him as a second-season casting.
The reviewed official pages do not explain whether either difference reflects a recast, an error or a difference in announcement scope. They establish that the performers and roles were announced, but not a single reconciled season assignment. Treat season labels for these two roles as unresolved rather than choosing one announcement over another.

What is the series called, and when is it expected?
HBO Max identifies the first season as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and says it will have eight episodes. Its service information gives a Christmas 2026 premiere. The official Wizarding World casting page instead says the series will debut in 2027. These are conflicting official timings; the available announcements do not establish a universally confirmed exact premiere date.
HBO Max says all of its plans can access the series, while availability of supported 4K/HDR and audio formats depends on device and plan. The September 2 cast announcement credits Francesca Gardiner as writer and executive producer, Mark Mylod as executive producer and director of multiple episodes, and J. K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts and David Heyman as executive producers. It names Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television as production partners.
How to distinguish confirmed cast from rumors
For a casting claim, check whether it appears in an HBO, Warner Bros. Discovery or official Wizarding World announcement. An actor-character pairing in those announcements is an official casting; a fan cast, unsourced post or report that does not cite an official announcement is not confirmation. Also check the announcement date and the season label actually used by that source—especially for Ginny and Lockhart, whose official season labels conflict.
