Dewan spoke about growth and changing needs, but did not identify one specific incident as the cause. Her comments are the clearest personal explanation in the cited public reporting; they should not be expanded into a claim about what Tatum privately thought or felt.

In April 2018, the couple jointly announced their separation. The Associated Press reported that they said they had chosen to “lovingly separate as a couple” and remained best friends. The statement presented the decision as mutual, but did not disclose a particular event or detailed cause.

How later divorce proceedings fit in
Dewan filed for divorce in October 2018. A judgment ending their marital status was entered in November 2019, while financial and custody matters continued. In September 2024, they reached a settlement and avoided a scheduled trial. The AP reported that the settlement details were confidential. Good Morning America reported that court documents said property issues were resolved and both waived spousal support.
Those later legal and financial proceedings came after the 2018 separation; they do not establish what caused the breakup. In particular, the later dispute over the Magic Mike franchise should not be presented as the reason the couple split.
