Who returns in Heartstopper Season 3?
Joe Locke and Kit Connor return as Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson, at the center of a season about love, friendship and the start of a new school year. The returning ensemble includes their friends, family and school staff.
| Performer | Character | Season 3 role or storyline |
|---|---|---|
| Joe Locke | Charlie Spring | Charlie wants to tell Nick he loves him and begins an important mental-health journey. |
| Kit Connor | Nick Nelson | Nick is ready to say “I love you” and worries Charlie is holding something back. He also works on feeling more comfortable with himself when Charlie is away. |
| Yasmin Finney | Elle Argent | At art school, Elle explores her sexuality as a trans girl and navigates her changing relationship with Tao. |
| William Gao | Tao Xu | Tao remains a close friend and part of Charlie’s support system while learning more about the insecurities behind his behavior. |
| Tobie Donovan | Isaac Henderson | Isaac continues exploring life as an aromantic and asexual person in a friend group where romance is a frequent focus. |
| Corinna Brown | Tara Jones | Tara continues her relationship with Darcy. |
| Kizzy Edgell | Darcy Olsson | Darcy works toward a healthy relationship with Tara and a better understanding of their identity as a non-binary person. |
| Rhea Norwood | Imogen Heaney | Imogen questions what she wants from a partner and from her future. |
| Leila Khan | Sahar Zahid | Sahar becomes more central to the friend group and explores a complicated relationship with Imogen. |
| Jenny Walser | Tori Spring | Charlie’s observant older sister has a larger role in the story around his mental health. |
| Bradley Riches | James McEwan | A student in the wider friend group with a special connection to Isaac. |
| Fisayo Akinade | Mr. Ajayi | Returns as one half of the teachers’ ongoing relationship storyline. |
| Nima Taleghani | Mr. Farouk | Returns alongside Mr. Ajayi. |
| Bel Priestley | Naomi | Returns as one of Elle’s newer creative friends. |
| Ash Self | Felix | Returns as one of Elle’s newer creative friends. |
| Jack Barton | David Nelson | Returns as Nick’s older brother. |
| Cormac Hyde-Corrin | Harry Greene | Returns as the former bully, who has begun to turn over a new leaf. |
| Alan Turkington | Mr. Lange | Returns as a member of the school staff. |
| Chetna Pandya | Coach Singh | Returns as a member of the school staff. |
Netflix’s Season 3 cast guide describes these characters and storylines. The season’s relationship arcs are not limited to the central couple: Elle and Tao’s relationship changes, Tara and Darcy work through what a healthy relationship means to them, and Isaac’s perspective gives the group’s romance-focused conversations another dimension.
Who are the new characters and guest roles?
| Performer | Character | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Hayley Atwell | Diane Nelson | Nick’s thoughtful aunt. She takes him on a summer holiday and offers advice about his relationship. |
| Eddie Marsan | Geoff | Charlie’s therapist, described by Netflix as wise and straight-talking. |
| Jonathan Bailey | Jack Maddox | A classics expert and Instagram-famous figure who is Charlie’s celebrity crush. Bailey’s appearance is a cameo. |
| Darragh Hand | Michael Holden | A new character close to Tori. Their relationship is gradually revealed. Netflix identifies Michael as a character from Alice Oseman’s graphic novels and the protagonist of her novel Solitaire. |
Michael is the most consequential addition for viewers interested in the wider Heartstopper story world, because his connection to Tori brings in a character with roots in Oseman’s other work. Diane, Geoff and Jack each enter through a different part of Nick or Charlie’s life.

Why isn’t Ben in Season 3?
Sebastian Croft does not return as Ben Hope. Netflix’s season announcement confirms Ben is absent after leaving at the end of Season 2; he is not listed as part of the Season 3 cast.
What is Season 3 about?
As summer ends, Charlie wants to tell Nick that he loves him, while Nick has something important he wants to say. The new school year brings the group relationship changes, social events and parties, alongside decisions about university. Charlie’s mental-health journey becomes a major thread, with Nick concerned that Charlie is keeping something from him and Tori taking a larger role in supporting her brother.

The season’s other stories broaden that focus: Elle and Tao adjust to a changing relationship, Isaac continues exploring his aromantic and asexual identity, and Tara and Darcy work on understanding one another. Creator Alice Oseman has described the show’s relationship arcs as central to how each season develops: “The key to each season is thinking about each couple and how their relationship can progress in some way.”

Heartstopper is based on Alice Oseman’s graphic-novel series, and Netflix identifies Michael Holden as a character from the graphic novels. The available official descriptions do not establish a precise volume-to-season mapping, so Season 3 should not be attributed to one specific volume on that basis alone.
