Hayley Erbert returned to the Dancing with the Stars ballroom on October 15, 2024, performing with her husband, Derek Hough, on the show’s Dedication Night. The appearance followed emergency brain surgery in December 2023. It was a return performance—not an announcement that she had rejoined the show as a professional dancer.
What Hayley Erbert performed on ‘Dancing with the Stars’
Erbert and Hough danced to Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things (Acoustic)” during Season 33’s Dedication Night on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. ABC had announced the appearance five days earlier, describing it as Erbert’s return to the ballroom. ABC’s announcement gave the performance date, episode and song.

For the couple, the performance meant sharing the stage again. Hough told ABC News, “The fact that we’re able to dance together again is nothing short of a miracle.” Erbert said afterward that it was the most challenging experience she had faced physically and mentally, adding, “So I’m really proud of myself, I’m proud of my body and how I came through this.” ABC News reported their reflections the day after the episode.
What happened to Hayley Erbert
In December 2023, while the couple were on their Symphony of Dance tour in Washington, D.C., Erbert became disoriented. Hough’s public account, reported by ABC News, said she was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma caused by a burst blood vessel and needed emergency craniectomy. ABC News reported that she underwent cranioplasty later that month.

The public recovery timeline showed gradual steps back toward dance. The Los Angeles Times reported that Erbert was back in the studio by March 2024 and medically cleared to return to the couple’s tour in April. ABC News also reported that the tour resumed in April. These milestones provide context for her later television performance; they do not establish additional details about her medical condition.

Her October 2024 appearance was a completed return to the ballroom, not confirmation of a full-season role. In an interview reported by TV Insider on January 31, 2026, Erbert said, “Never say never.” She wanted to keep dancing but was unsure whether her body was ready for a full season, and raised the possibility of appearing in a single number instead. Those were conditional comments, not a casting announcement.
