Otto is absent from the finished film; the movie reportedly explains that he moved to Switzerland for tax purposes, while Bad Bunny’s Oscar becomes Happy’s new caddie.
Who is Otto, and what did the deleted scene reveal?
Otto is Happy Gilmore’s caddie in the 1996 original, played by Allen Covert. In the released film, he is not named in dialogue; according to a 2024 Screen Rant article republished by Its Prime Media, his name appears in the end credits and was spoken in a deleted scene. The article described the reveal as 28 years old, a rounded interval measured from the original film’s 1996 release to the article’s 2024 publication. Screen Rant via Its Prime Media

That small cut detail became the hook for speculation about the sequel. The 2024 article floated the possibility that Happy Gilmore 2 could give Otto belated recognition. It was a pre-release hope, not information about the completed film.
Does Happy Gilmore 2 bring Otto back?
No. Post-release coverage reports that Otto does not appear on-screen in Happy Gilmore 2. The film’s explanation, as reported by ComingSoon, is that Otto moved to Switzerland for tax purposes. That is the movie’s joke explanation, not a confirmed account of why Allen Covert or the character was left out. ComingSoon

Happy’s new caddie is Oscar, played by Bad Bunny. The sequel therefore gives the caddie role to a new character rather than using Otto’s return to resolve the original film’s cut-name detail. Calling the movie a fulfillment of the 2024 article’s proposed “justice” for Otto would overstate what happens.
Which original characters and callbacks does the sequel include?
Otto’s absence sits alongside a broader mix of returns and tributes, rather than a total break with the original. Netflix’s official Tudum guide confirms Ben Stiller returns as Hal L., now a therapist running Happy’s mandated AA meetings, and catalogs other callbacks to the 1996 film. The sequel also honors original cast members who have died. Director Kyle Newacheck told Tudum, “It feels good to honor those that were in the first one and could not be here to help with the second one.” His comment describes the film’s memorial approach; it does not specifically explain Otto’s absence. - Otto’s sequel presence: He is not on-screen, according to ComingSoon’s post-release account.
- The in-film explanation: The reported Switzerland-for-tax-purposes line accounts for Otto’s absence as a joke within the story.
- The caddie role: Bad Bunny’s Oscar fills the role in the sequel.
- The production reason: No authoritative explanation for Allen Covert’s or Otto’s omission is established in the cited coverage.
The distinction matters: the deleted scene made Otto’s name a satisfying bit of original-film trivia, and the 2024 article imagined a sequel payoff. The finished sequel instead acknowledges his absence with a line and moves forward with a different caddie.
