Parlophone/Rhino announced its rediscovery on January 23, 2025, as the label prepared the album’s 40th-anniversary edition; the song was not newly recorded for the reissue.
What is Tina Turner’s rediscovered song?
“Hot For You Baby” was recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood for Private Dancer, but did not make the final 1984 album. The label described it as “thought to be lost to time” and called it “newly unearthed” and “never-before-heard.” Those phrases refer to the track’s rediscovery and public release, not a new recording session.

The label’s January 23, 2025 announcement coincided with the song’s first public play, reported by The Washington Post. That establishes a public debut, not that no one had heard the recording privately before. A Tina Turner Blog account says the master tape was found while the label compiled the anniversary reissue. Neither the label nor the Associated Press establishes why the song was left off the original album.
What does the song sound like?
The Associated Press describes it as a rowdy ’80s rock song, highlighting Turner’s husky tone. The Tina Turner Blog calls it an up-tempo rocker, noting showboating guitar chords and an “extremely 1980s cowbell.” These are reviewers’ descriptions rather than formal genre or production credits.

Who wrote and produced “Hot For You Baby”?
The published songwriting credits conflict. Parlophone/Rhino and the Associated Press credit John Paul Young as the writer; the Tina Turner Blog attributes the song to George Young and Harry Vanda. Without a definitive liner-note or rights credit resolving the discrepancy, it is safest to treat the writer attribution as unsettled. The label and AP both name John Carter as producer.
Where can you hear it, and what followed?
The track was part of the Private Dancer 40th-anniversary release campaign. Rhino announced the anniversary edition for March 21, 2025, in 5CD/Blu-ray, 2CD, pearl-vinyl LP, and picture-disc LP formats. The label says the 5CD/Blu-ray set includes previously unreleased tracks, live performances, and 4K music videos. Its announcement does not establish that “Hot For You Baby” appears in the same way on every format, so consult the specific edition’s track listing before choosing one.
Pet Shop Boys released an official remix on April 25, 2025. Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe said they had “the joy of working with Tina in the mid-90s on our song ‘Confidential’” and that it was “a pleasure to be able to remix this funky song from the 80s with an awesome vocal from Tina.” The Official Charts record gives the song a first chart date of May 8, 2025, but the cited record does not supply a chart position.
