What is Young Sherlock about?
Amazon describes the series as Guy Ritchie’s origin story for Sherlock Holmes, with Hero Fiennes Tiffin playing the young detective. Tom’s Guide’s review provides more detail: the 19-year-old Sherlock is sent to Oxford, where he befriends Moriarty and meets Princess Gulun Shou’an. After a scientific artifact is stolen and a murder occurs on campus, Sherlock becomes the prime suspect. He and Moriarty try to clear his name and uncover a conspiracy tied to Sherlock’s past.
How successful was the series?
In its later update, Amazon said the first season reached 45 million viewers in its first 28 days and ranked among the top 10 Prime Original Seasons of all time. Amazon’s statement does not explain the methodology behind “viewers”; the number should not be recast as households, hours watched, or a current chart ranking.
The figure is a retrospective audience milestone, distinct from the launch-week No. 1 chart report. One describes reported viewing over a 28-day period; the other describes a chart position at a particular point in time.
Is Young Sherlock based on books?
Tom’s Guide identifies Andrew Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes books as source material, while describing the screen version as an entertaining but not especially faithful adaptation. The series should not be treated as a scene-by-scene translation of the novels.

Will there be a second season?
Amazon says Season 2 is in production, but its announcement does not give a release date. Peter Friedlander, Amazon MGM Studios’ head of global television, praised the creative direction in the announcement: “Guy Ritchie and Matthew Parkhill have cracked the code on making Sherlock’s early years feel fresh, dangerous, and utterly addictive, and have introduced a compelling take on James Moriarty that sets the stage for what’s to come.” That is a studio executive’s promotional comment, rather than an independent critical assessment.
