Here’s a 31-night October plan that moves from playful Halloween favorites to darker horror, with one film for each day of the month. The lineup is an editorial mix—not 31 equally frightening films—and you can rearrange it to fit your household, available time, and appetite for scares. The titles below are well-known seasonal picks; check each film’s runtime, age guidance, and local viewing options before setting your schedule.
How this 31-film plan is organized
“Halloween movie” can mean a film set on Halloween, a horror film suited to the season, or a lighter fantasy or comedy often included in October programming. This list uses all three meanings. It begins with accessible, playful choices, then shifts toward suspense and more intense horror as the month progresses. The sequence is a suggestion, not a ranking: Netflix’s 2026 31 Days of Horror also describes its order as subjective.

Scare labels here are broad editorial cues, not age ratings or a substitute for checking a film’s content. For more formal guidance, consult the rating information for the specific title and edition available in your country. Paramount+ UK & Ireland, for example, pairs age guidance with a scare meter on its Halloween recommendations page; those labels are specific to that region and service.
31 films for October
Use the day numbers as a ready-made calendar. “Light” indicates a playful or family-fantasy tone; “spooky” means eerie or supernatural; “suspenseful” signals tension; and “intense” is for viewers who want more conventional horror. These are viewing-mood descriptions, not official classifications.

Make the schedule work for your household
Choose by mood, not just by date
If a title feels too intense, swap it with a lighter film from the first half of the list. For a family or mixed-age group, decide together using the film’s local rating and a content guide rather than relying on a broad label such as “spooky.” The scare scale above helps with tone, but it does not establish that a film is appropriate for a particular age.
Plan around runtime and attention
Thirty-one consecutive feature-length evenings can be a substantial commitment. Check the runtime for each film on the version you can access, since listings and cuts can differ. Netflix’s October guide supplies individual runtimes for its own selections; that information does not establish runtimes for this lineup. If nightly viewing is impractical, choose weekend double features, skip nights, or treat the list as a menu rather than a deadline.

Find current viewing options locally
Availability changes by country, date, and service. Rotten Tomatoes’ 2026 Halloween programming guide, updated October 2, 2026, gathers seasonal hubs and schedules across streaming services and networks, but its listings should be rechecked when you plan to watch. Search the exact film title in your local services or a current regional listing; this guide does not promise that all 31 films are available on one platform.
For U.S. viewers, Disney+’s Freeform 31 Nights of Halloween guide, revised October 1, 2026, says the 2026 schedule runs October 1–31 and can be watched through a TV provider that carries Freeform or Hulu + Live TV. That is a route to that U.S.-oriented schedule, not a guarantee that every film in this article airs there or is available everywhere.

Optional: watch a franchise in sequence
If you prefer a connected run of films to a mixed calendar, a franchise collection can make a useful alternative. Movie Marathon’s Halloween Collection, last modified December 15, 2025, lists 11 franchise entries with a combined runtime of 1,052 minutes. That figure applies to the collection described on that page, not to the 31-film plan above. Before buying physical media, confirm the exact edition, format, region compatibility, and current stock with the seller.
