Mono County prosecutors announced two misdemeanor charges against actor Haley Joel Osment on April 17, 2025, following his April 8 arrest at Mammoth Mountain. The charges were possession of cocaine and disorderly conduct under the influence of alcohol in public. Later reporting described a conditional diversion program, but the sources cited here do not establish the case’s final disposition after a January 5, 2026 review date.

What was Haley Joel Osment charged with?

In an April 17, 2025 announcement, the Mono County District Attorney’s Office said Osment faced two misdemeanor counts arising from his April 8 arrest by Mammoth Lakes police at Mammoth Mountain:

  • Disorderly conduct under the influence of alcohol in public, charged under California Penal Code section 647(f).
  • Possession of cocaine, charged under California Health and Safety Code section 11350(a).

The charges are allegations, not findings of guilt. The District Attorney’s Office stated that a criminal complaint contains charges that must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt and that “Every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.” Mono County District Attorney’s Office announcement, April 17, 2025.

What happened after the charges were announced?

June 2025: Diversion reported

In June 2025, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that a judge granted Osment a one-year diversion program. The reported terms included attending at least three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings each week, participating in therapy twice weekly for six months, and complying with all laws. If he completed the terms, the charges were to be dismissed; otherwise, criminal proceedings would be reinstated. Mono County District Attorney David Anderson told the Chronicle: “If he does not complete diversion, the criminal proceedings will be reinstated.” San Francisco Chronicle report, June 2025.

January 2026: Reported review date passed

The Chronicle reported January 5, 2026, as the next review date for compliance. The sources cited here do not establish whether Osment completed diversion or what the court decided at or after that review. A review date passing is not itself proof that the conditions were completed or that the charges were dismissed.

What is known about the case’s current status?

The available reporting describes the charges and a conditional diversion order, but does not establish a final disposition. It would therefore be inaccurate on this record to say that the charges were dismissed, that Osment was convicted, or that prosecution remains ongoing. The Mono County Superior Court says criminal filings and disposition records can be requested from its Criminal Division. Mono County Superior Court criminal records information.

What did Osment say?

TMZ reported on April 17, 2025, that Osment issued an apology expressing horror at his behavior and apologizing for language used during the arrest. That reported apology concerned his language; it should not be treated as a plea or admission to either charged offense. TMZ report, April 17, 2025.
