At the time, the announcement came about six months after Blanchard’s release from prison. She was released on parole from a Missouri prison on December 28, 2023, after more than eight years in custody, the Associated Press reported in January 2024.
Who is Ken Urker, and what did Blanchard say about paternity?
Blanchard and Urker had met while she was incarcerated and had previously been engaged. After her release, she married Ryan Anderson. She filed for divorce in March 2024 and later reconnected with Urker, according to The Independent’s July 2024 coverage.

Why was Blanchard in prison?
The phrase “mum murderer” in the original headline is a sensational shorthand, not a precise account of the legal case. Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for persuading her then-boyfriend to kill her mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, the Associated Press reported in January 2024. The AP also reported that Blanchard described her mother as abusive; that context should not be mistaken for a finding that excuses or changes the conviction.
