His verdict: it is expensive, but the full experience makes it a compelling choice for a celebration or a special treat. That is one critic’s assessment of a 2024 visit—not a promise about every visit or today’s menu.
What Collins experienced at Gibney
Gibney is at 40 Marine Parade in Cottesloe, Western Australia. Its official site describes it as a sophisticated brasserie and grill overlooking Cottesloe Beach. Collins’s PerthNow review followed a Thursday lunch with his wife and considered the meal as a whole, rather than judging the restaurant on one signature dish.
The 2024 meal ranged from seafood and steakhouse fare to cocktails and dessert. Collins wrote about Paspaley pearl meat ceviche, cured hiramasa kingfish, pissaladiere and Fremantle swordfish, alongside fries, roasted carrots and a Caesar salad prepared at the table. He also described a chocolate cake and a dessert special. These are examples from that review, not confirmation that the dishes remain on the menu.
Why the review scored it 19/20
Food, drink and presentation
Collins praised the seafood and the broader cooking, but his account also gave weight to how the meal unfolded. The cocktail service included a trolley and a Gibney Gibson; the Caesar salad arrived with tableside presentation. He also highlighted wine pairings and the chocolate cake. Taken together, those details helped make the meal feel like a destination experience rather than simply a high-end plate of food.
#1 Best Overall
Room, views and service
The review treats the setting and hospitality as part of the value. Gibney’s official site lists main dining, terrace dining, terrace lounge, bar dining and lounge bar spaces, with views toward Cottesloe Beach and the surrounding coast. The terrace is partly exposed to the weather. Collins praised the room and service, making the restaurant’s atmosphere—not just its menu—central to his high score.
Is Gibney worth the money?
For Collins, the answer was yes when the occasion justified the spend. His review clearly describes the experience as costly, while recommending it for celebrations, visiting guests or treating oneself. That is a reviewer’s value judgment, not a claim that Gibney suits every budget or that every diner will weigh the experience the same way.
The prices Collins recorded belong to his 2024 visit: $28 for the Gibney Gibson; $24 for pearl meat ceviche; $32 for cured kingfish; $18 for pissaladiere; $68 for Fremantle swordfish; $18 for roasted carrots; $48 for the tableside Caesar; and $26 for the chocolate cake. They are historical review prices, not current price guidance. Check the current official menu for today’s dishes and pricing.
What to know before booking
Menu and dining style
The current official menu describes food inspired by old-world brasseries and steak houses, with classic flavours and timeless presentation. It lists seafood, steak, homemade pasta, luxurious snacks and a caviar bar. Head chef James Cole Bowen says the kitchen draws on traditional bistro and brasserie cooking while bringing classic presentations and flavour combinations into the present. The 2024 review’s dishes should not be assumed to be available now.

A 2025 Time Out Perth guide also presents Gibney as a sophisticated seaside brasserie and mentions O’Connor sirloin, Shark Bay clam spaghetti and Fremantle swordfish. Those examples reflect that guide’s dated coverage, not a live menu listing.
Hours, seats and group bookings
Gibney’s official reservations page currently lists opening from midday Monday to Thursday and 11:30am Friday to Sunday. It says online bookings are available for up to 20 people; groups of nine to 20 are asked to select a set group menu. The page also lists a lounge-menu-only window for Monday-to-Thursday reservations from 3pm to 5pm. Hours and booking terms can change, so confirm them on the official reservations page before making plans.
Rank #4
If you are considering terrace dining, note that the venue says the terrace is partly exposed to the weather. Choose clothing and seating with that in mind.

The 19/20 belongs to Collins’s review, published by PerthNow on 5 November 2024. It reflects his firsthand assessment of that lunch and should not be read as a guarantee of another diner’s experience. Visitor accounts on Tripadvisor include both praise and complaints about value, noise, lighting, seasoning and service; these are individual reports, not evidence of a representative or current service standard.

Later recognition should be kept separate from the 2024 review. Gibney’s official site says the restaurant received its 2026 Restaurant of the Year award, describing it as a second consecutive year and a first in the awards’ history. Kailis Hospitality Group says the West Australian Good Food Guide named Gibney Best Restaurant in Western Australia in both 2025 and 2026. Those claims are attributable to the venue and its hospitality group; they were not part of Collins’s 2024 review context.
