The Netflix spy thriller Black Doves was reported at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes when it debuted in December 2024—but that was a launch-day snapshot, not a permanent score. The six-episode series stars Keira Knightley as a spy embedded in London’s political world, with Ben Whishaw and Sarah Lancashire in key roles. Netflix has announced that Season 2 premieres November 5, 2026.
What is the gritty new Netflix spy series?
The series is Black Doves, a six-episode British thriller created and written by Joe Barton. Set in London at Christmas, it follows Helen Webb, a politician’s wife and mother who secretly passes her husband’s information to an organization that sells secrets.
When Helen’s lover Jason is murdered, her spymaster Reed calls in Helen’s longtime friend Sam Young, an assassin, to protect her. Their investigation draws them into a wider conspiracy. The setup combines espionage and political secrets with action, dark humor, and the friendship between Helen and Sam. Netflix describes it as a story of “friendship and sacrifice.”
Netflix lists the series as TV-MA. Its six episodes make for a compact season rather than a long-running procedural. The Christmas setting gives the story a seasonal backdrop, but the premise is a spy thriller, not a holiday comedy.
