How the collaboration came together
According to a gshow report published June 28, 2025, Alok announced the partnership during a performance in São Paulo and said Gil had given him permission to reinterpret several classics. The songs named in that announcement were “Tempo Rei,” “Maracatu Atômico,” “Palco” and “Toda Menina Baiana”—the same four represented on the EP.
#1 Best Overall
On release day, Alok described the work as a careful revisit to songs carrying Brazil’s history, memory and affection.
What the track list can—and cannot—tell you
The credits and durations make it easy to compare which source song each version uses and who is credited on the remix. They also show the EP’s structure: two “Palco” versions and two “Maracatu Atômico” versions, with one version apiece of the other songs.
The listings do not assess the arrangements or rank the remixes, and no independent audio review or audience-response measurement is established by the cited coverage. Listeners will need to hear the tracks to judge how each version handles Gil’s originals.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Gilberto Gil’s wider recorded legacy
The EP draws on a catalog associated with one of Brazil’s most prominent musicians. Gilberto Gil’s official biography describes nearly 60 albums, around 4 million copies sold and nine Grammys. The biography does not state when those figures were published, so they should be read as the figures presented on that page rather than as measurements current to 2026.
