The self-produced LP was announced for release on April 25, 2025, through Island Records. Voicemails from Perez’s late older sister, Celene, run through the album; Perez says she wanted her sister to remain part of it. In an October 2025 interview, she described her changing relationship with Christianity as a gradual process, not a sudden break.
What is Gigi Perez’s new LP about?
At The Beach, In Every Life is Perez’s self-produced debut full-length. Universal Music Canada announced the album on April 14, 2025, for release April 25 through Island Records. The label said Perez recorded and executive-produced it with collaborators Noah Weinman and Aidan Hobbs, drawing on the preceding five years of her life: a major-label deal, being dropped, returning to South Florida, and living through grief and romance.

The label describes grief, love, faith and religion as central themes. Perez offered a personal measure of the album’s purpose: “This is the album I needed to listen to when I was twenty years old following the passing of my older sister, Celene.” She also called it “a flag down in the sand at a checkpoint rather than a destination,” adding that she “have[s] been loved through [her] grief.” Those are Perez’s descriptions of a work made from a particular point in her life, rather than a claim that grief has a neat resolution.
Why are Celene’s voicemails woven through the album?
Celene’s voice memos appear throughout the LP. Asked why she threaded her sister’s messages into the record, Perez told the Los Angeles Times: “I wanted her to be a part of it. She was an opera singer — one of the greatest singers I’ve ever heard in my life.” Their presence makes memory part of the album’s structure as well as its subject.

The coverage establishes that Celene died, but Perez does not specify the circumstances of her death in the Los Angeles Times interview. The album’s personal context should not be used to infer details she has not shared.
How did grief and Christianity influence Perez’s album?
In the October 8, 2025, Los Angeles Times interview, Perez recalled attending church until she was 17. She described losing belief not as a single decision but as a drawn-out change: “It takes years and years of slowly letting go of different concepts and beliefs.” She said she had discussed questions about free will and creation with her therapist, found flaws in explanations she had encountered, and could not say whether she might return to religion.
Rank #2
Perez also criticized what she sees as the political use of Christianity to shield hatred and oppression. That is her account of her experience and views, not a general judgment about Christians or Christianity. The album announcement’s emphasis on faith and religion sits alongside its treatment of grief and love, leaving room for doubt rather than presenting belief as settled.
What lies beyond “Sailor Song”?
“Sailor Song” is Perez’s breakout, but it is not the whole album. The Los Angeles Times reported more than 1.4 billion Spotify streams for the track as of October 8, 2025; that is a dated figure, not a current stream count. NPR’s June 11, 2025, World Cafe feature frames the debut as a wider world beyond the viral single, one that can hold grief and questions of faith alongside joy.

NPR’s set list included “Sleeping,” “Fable,” “At The Beach, In Every Life,” and “Sailor Song.” The official artist site also lists album tracks including “Fable,” “Chemistry,” and “Please Be Rude.” Those titles and the album’s recurring voice memos offer routes into the record’s different concerns, but they do not establish a definitive track-by-track interpretation.
How Perez made the album
The album followed a difficult career turn. The Los Angeles Times reports that Perez, the daughter of Cuban immigrants, began writing songs at about 15, studied briefly at Berklee College of Music, signed with Interscope in 2021, and was dropped two years later. After “Sailor Song” broke out, she later signed with Island.
NPR reports that Perez was pursuing music at Berklee when Celene died. After being dropped by a major label, she returned to her parents’ home in South Florida, taught herself production and began working on the debut. The label says the finished record was recorded and executive-produced by Perez with Noah Weinman and Aidan Hobbs. Together, those details place the album’s self-production within a story of returning home and building a new body of work after a career setback.
