Spoiler scope: This explanation includes the Watchman Series reveal described in Kodansha’s Gachiakuta Volume 12 listing. It does not treat that synopsis as a complete account of later manga canon. Anime-only viewers should stop before the section on what Volume 12 reveals.
In Gachiakuta, the Watchman Series is a mysterious clue tied to Undertaker Canis Surebrec. Kodansha identifies its logo as Canis’s symbol and points to the series as potentially important to understanding the relationship between the Sphere and the ground. The same synopsis notes that Canis shares the surname Surebrec with Rudo, but does not explain their relationship or solve the Sphere’s mystery.
What is the Watchman Series in Gachiakuta?
The Watchman Series is presented as a mystery within the manga, not as a fully explained system. Kodansha’s Volume 12 synopsis identifies the Watchman Series logo as the symbol of the mysterious Undertaker, Canis Surebrec, and describes the series as a potentially crucial clue to discovering how the Sphere and the ground are connected.
That is the clearest publisher-confirmed explanation available in the cited synopsis. It establishes the series’ narrative importance and its association with Canis; it does not provide a complete account of what the series consists of or how its mysteries work.

Who is Canis Surebrec, and why does the surname matter?
Kodansha calls Canis Surebrec a mysterious Undertaker and says he shares his surname with Rudo. The shared name is a deliberate point of interest, but the synopsis does not confirm whether Canis is Rudo’s relative, ancestor, or connected to him in another way. Treating any specific relationship as established would go beyond what this source says.
Why could the Watchman Series connect the Sphere and the ground?
The story’s basic premise makes that question central. Rudo lives in a slum, is falsely accused, and is cast into the Pit. There, he joins the Cleaners, who fight trash beasts, while he pursues the truth. Kodansha’s description positions the Watchman Series as a clue that may help explain the relationship between the Sphere and the ground, but the synopsis does not give the answer.
