Jason Voorhees appears in newly shown footage tied to Sweet Revenge, a short-form project—not a released feature film. Separately, a new Friday the 13th sequel was described as being in early development, with no release date or production attachments established. The more concrete franchise release is Crystal Lake, an eight-episode prequel series set to premiere on Peacock on October 15, 2026.
What the new Jason footage is from
Reporting previewed Jason footage from Sweet Revenge, described as a short-form vignette, at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2025. The report called it the first official new Jason footage since the 2009 reboot; that 16-year framing refers to the gap between those film-era appearances, not an absence of all Friday the 13th projects or material. The footage is not from a released feature sequel. Read the report on the footage and sequel status.

What is confirmed about the new sequel
A separate feature sequel was reported as being in early development. That supports saying the project was described as in development, but does not establish a release date, cast, director, distributor, or production start.
The report attributed to Horror Inc. executive vice president Robbie Barsamian the statement that a sequel movie and game were priorities and “both are coming.” That remark came in the context of the 2025 reporting and should not be read as a new 2026 status update.
How Crystal Lake fits in
Crystal Lake is a distinct project: an eight-episode prequel series, not the announced feature sequel. Peacock identifies Brad Caleb Kane as creator, writer, and executive producer, and says all episodes will debut on the service on October 15, 2026. Linda Cardellini plays Pam Voorhees and Callum Vinson plays Jason as a child. Peacock’s series guide and NBCUniversal’s announcement describe the series.
The story centers on Pam grieving after young Jason drowns, as two strangers arrive to investigate her past. Peacock is the announced exclusive U.S. streaming home; the cited announcements do not establish distribution elsewhere or subscription availability through other providers.
