What Fred again.. said about Perth
Nardwuar’s interview with Fred again.. was published on 14 October 2024, according to contemporaneous music coverage. Nardwuar’s official interview index lists Fred Again. In the conversation, Fred praised the city and recalled speaking with Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas about the sound restriction at his recent show.
PerthNow reproduced Fred’s remark as: “Shout out to the Mayor of Perth, that’s when we were doing the last rave on our Australian tour a few months ago, which was wild.” The quotation is as reported by PerthNow; the original recording or a verified transcript is not available here to independently confirm its exact wording.
What happened at the Langley Park show
The event was Fred again..’s performance at Langley Park on 30 March 2024. The City of Perth said in a May 2024 message that the show had drawn 35,000 people the previous month; PerthNow also reported about 35,000 attendees.

PerthNow’s account of Fred’s recollection says the sound limit was 96 dB. Fred said he asked Zempilas whether it could be raised by two or three decibels, and that Zempilas responded it could be pushed by 15. Fred’s account says the limit ultimately reached 100 dB. Those sound-limit figures come from PerthNow’s reporting of Fred’s account; the City source reporting attendance does not independently confirm them.
Did Zempilas approve a higher sound limit?
That is disputed. Zempilas told PerthNow that he remembered the conversation differently and did not recall giving Fred permission to go as loud as he wanted. PerthNow quoted him as saying: “Fred and I remember our conversation a little differently, I don’t remember giving him the OK to go as loud as he wanted, but I did encourage him to really turn it on for the Perth crowd — and he definitely did that.”

So Fred’s account is not settled proof of what City officials authorized. The two men’s recollections differ, and the reported final figure should not be treated as independently verified approval.
