No actor can responsibly be called the most likely next James Bond on the public evidence available: Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed that the search is underway, but it has not announced a successor to Daniel Craig or identified an official shortlist. Several names are circulating in press reports, but none is confirmed.
Who will be the next James Bond?
As of the latest reported updates in August 2026, the casting remains unresolved. Amazon MGM Studios said in May that “The search for the next James Bond is underway,” adding that it would not comment on specific details during the process. That makes “no one can be singled out yet” the most accurate answer to who is most likely to replace Craig. Reports have mentioned possible candidates, but the identities of actors moving forward in the process have not been made public. There is no substantiated basis for assigning one of them a lead or ranking them by odds.
Which actors are being mentioned?
Recent coverage has included Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Jack Lowden, Louis Partridge and Tom Francis. Because the reported audition identities are undisclosed, the public names cannot be treated as evidence that any specific actor is close to being cast. Age, nationality, popularity or a performer’s previous roles also do not establish the casting team’s preferences.
When might the next Bond be announced?
In August 2026, producer Amy Pascal told Euronews, “I would say the end of the year is a good bet.” She also described the team as methodical and said following Craig was difficult. The announced creative team offers a firmer picture of the project than the casting rumors do. A June report said Knight was drawing heavily from Ian Fleming’s earliest novels and raised the possibility of an origin story or a Bond who has not yet reached “00” status. Those are reported creative-direction details and speculation, not a confirmed plot description.
