The sources covering Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s March 2021 Oprah interview do not confirm that Meghan wore a watch during the interview. British Vogue’s interview-related jewellery coverage identifies a Cartier tennis bracelet associated with Princess Diana—not a watch. Separately, Meghan has been linked to two Cartier Tank Française watches, while watch publications have reported models associated with Harry, Catherine and Prince William.
Did Meghan wear a watch in the Oprah interview?
The available coverage does not establish that Meghan wore a watch on her wrist during the interview. British Vogue’s March 2, 2021 article about the CBS special discusses Meghan wearing Diana’s Cartier tennis bracelet in the trailer. It is a bracelet, not a watch, and should not be mistaken for one. British Vogue’s interview-jewellery coverage also describes the symbolism attributed to the pieces.
Which Cartier watches are associated with Meghan?
Two Cartier Tank Française watches are reported as part of Meghan’s story. British Vogue and Fratello describe distinct watches with different histories; neither account makes the watch seen in the interview.
Meghan’s two-tone Tank Française
According to Fratello, Meghan bought herself a two-tone Tank Française after learning that Suits would return for a third season. The watch was engraved “To M.M. From M.M.” British Vogue quotes Meghan saying of the watch, “I plan to give it to my daughter one day,” and adds her reflection: “That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.” These are reports about a personally meaningful watch, not evidence she wore it during the Oprah interview. Diana’s gold Tank Française
British Vogue reports that Harry gave Meghan the gold Tank Française that had belonged to his mother, Princess Diana, after he inherited it. This is separate from Meghan’s self-purchased two-tone watch. The report establishes the family connection, not a confirmed appearance on Meghan’s wrist during the interview.
Why the Tank Française has a distinctive look
British Vogue traces the Tank design to 1917, when Louis Cartier created a watch whose form drew on the bird’s-eye view of a military tank; it reached stores in 1919. The Tank Française is a later variation, introduced in 1996 and distinguished by its metal bracelet. British Vogue’s jewellery and watch director Rachel Garrahan calls the Tank “the French maison’s most iconic watch, famed for its timeless design and elegant silhouette.” British Vogue’s Tank history provides the design context.

The two Meghan-associated watches therefore share a model family but differ in metal and provenance: one was her own engraved two-tone purchase, while the other is Diana’s gold watch, reported as a gift from Harry.
What watches have been reported for other members of the family?
Watch publications have associated several models with other royals. These are published reports, not an official or complete inventory of the family’s watches. Fratello’s 2021 roundup is linked to the Oprah interview; Bob’s Watches, a commercial retailer, also discusses Harry’s reported watches.

- Shape and size: Compare the case proportions and how they sit on the wrist.
- Bracelet or strap: The Française’s metal bracelet is part of its look; other Tank variations may differ.
- Metal and dial: Decide whether you prefer a two-tone appearance, gold tone or another finish.
- Movement and condition: For a pre-owned watch, check the specific model, service history and condition.
- Provenance: A watch of the same model is not the same individual watch. Claims that a listing is one of Meghan’s or Diana’s watches would require specific, credible provenance.
