Josh Seiter, a former contestant on The Bachelorette, said he was alive and well on August 29, 2023, after a death announcement appeared on his Instagram account. He said the account had been hacked and apologized for the confusion. That statement corrected the false announcement at the time; it does not establish his present-day status.
What happened to Josh Seiter?
On August 28, 2023, a post attributed to Seiter’s family announced his death on his Instagram account, according to contemporaneous reporting. The announcement was false. Seiter addressed it in a video posted the next day.
What Seiter said in his video
On August 29, Seiter said, “As you can see, I am alive and well. My account was hacked,” as quoted by the Los Angeles Times. He said he had been trying to regain access for about 24 hours and apologized for the confusion. ABC News reported that he described the post as a cruel joke and said he would work with his team to try to identify who was behind it.
What is confirmed—and what is not
The contemporaneous accounts establish that a false death announcement appeared on Seiter’s Instagram and that he publicly said he was alive and that his account had been hacked. The hacking explanation is Seiter’s account of what happened: the reports do not independently identify an intruder or explain how the account was accessed. The Guardian noted that the episode prompted renewed caution about taking social-media statements at face value.

No. His August 29, 2023 video corrected the death announcement circulating then. The reports cited here do not verify his status after that update, so they cannot establish whether he is alive today.
