IMDbPro’s listing gives a fuller synopsis: Joey works at Basil’s, an Italian restaurant founded by his late grandfather. He pines for Sara, a famous actress who visits the restaurant, while life coach Ruby tries to help him and a major food critic is due to review the business. That expanded plot description comes from a third-party database listing, rather than an official distributor synopsis.
A Vimeo trailer page describes the feature as a romantic comedy and lists Jonathan Weir, Tatyana Gillam, Roslyn Boyer and Jessica Husband as stars, with Taylor and Papandroulakis among the featured cast. View the trailer page on Vimeo.

What role does Jo Beth Taylor play?
Taylor plays Jane, a rich, mean-spirited housewife who is jealous of her daughter, according to PerthNow’s report. The role is a departure from the parts Taylor is usually offered. She told PerthNow: “At first, when I was reading the script, I thought, ‘Hmm, this character, she’s not very nice’.” She added that she told Bouwman, “This character is nasty, isn’t she, and very sarcastic”, but said it was “really fun to play the sort of role in which I’m not normally cast.”
Who is Aristos Papandroulakis in The One Thing?
Papandroulakis plays the food critic whose review could affect Joey’s restaurant. PerthNow identified him as a real-life chef and reported that he now runs a seafood trading business. Reflecting on the critic role, he told the publication: “Every restaurant keeps (food critics) close,” adding, “You have to, because it’s so easy for them to write a bad report and that hurts.”

Papandroulakis is also known for presenting Surprise Chef, a program in which he went into supermarkets to inspect shoppers’ groceries and then cooked from them in their homes, as PerthNow described it. Asked about reuniting with castmates for a new series, he said “never say never”; that comment does not amount to confirmation of a revival.

PerthNow reported on 13 June 2025 that production had recently wrapped in Perth and that the film was expected in cinemas in time for Valentine’s Day 2026. That was the expectation at the time, not confirmation of a release on that date. IMDbPro’s listing, updated 1 July 2026, labels the film released and gives an Australian release date of 1 July 2026. That later date is a third-party database entry, not an official distributor announcement.
