In an EntertainmentNow report updated February 15, 2026, Fieri’s comments center on Shirley Chung and Tobias Dorzon, while the season’s competitive surprises add to its “high highs and low lows.”
Why Fieri calls this season the most emotional
Fieri’s reaction is rooted in the chefs’ real-life journeys, as well as the relationships he has built with them. EntertainmentNow reports that, in a Food Network Instagram video posted February 13, 2026, Fieri described himself as the show’s creator, host and producer, and as a friend to the chefs. “It’s a very difficult spot to be in,” he said, before adding, “But one I wouldn’t trade for anything.”
The interview recap attributes the comments and quotations to that Instagram video; it does not provide an independently verified transcript. The emotional premise is clear in the report: Fieri is invested both in the competition and in the people confronting its pressure.
The comeback stories behind his reaction
Shirley Chung’s return after cancer
EntertainmentNow says Fieri highlighted Shirley Chung’s return after she faced stage four tongue cancer and took the entire Tournament of Champions VI year off. The report says he described her as surviving, becoming cancer-free and then returning to compete, calling the comeback “Mind-blowing.” Those health details are presented here as the report’s account of Fieri’s remarks, not as independent medical reporting.

Tobias Dorzon’s return after being shot
Fieri also spoke about Tobias “The Huncho” Dorzon. According to EntertainmentNow’s account, Fieri said Dorzon had been shot 11 times and faced the possibility of amputations and not walking again. After rehabilitation, Dorzon returned to compete in season VII; Fieri called him “a warrior.” The report is the source for these details.
Competition adds its own highs and lows
The season’s emotional weight is not only about recovery. Fieri also pointed to Jet Tila reaching the Final Four for the fifth time and to newcomers making it to that stage after advancing from qualifiers. EntertainmentNow quotes him describing the show’s mixture of triumph and disappointment as “the high highs and the low lows of TOC.”
Those arcs help explain why the tournament can feel personal as well as competitive: established contenders are chasing another milestone while newcomers make deep runs, all under the pressure of elimination.
Where and when season VII was scheduled to air
