What Fiona Harvey said about her eyesight
In a PerthNow report dated 11 June 2025, Taylor Renouf said Harvey told the Daily Record she had been diagnosed with background retinopathy. The report quoted her: “I’m going blind and it’s not surprising with the stress I have been under as a result of Baby Reindeer.” Harvey also reportedly said her blood sugars had been “wild” since the series aired and that her sleep, eating and exercise had been disrupted. These are statements attributed to Harvey, not independently verified medical findings. PerthNow’s report relays the claims through its account of the Daily Record interview.
The report describes background retinopathy as an early stage of diabetic retinopathy involving changes to retinal blood vessels. It does not name a medical professional who confirmed Harvey’s diagnosis or connected it to stress from the show, and it does not provide medical records. The phrase “going blind” should therefore be read as Harvey’s reported description, not as a confirmed prognosis.

How the eyesight claim relates to Harvey’s Netflix lawsuit
The health statement and the lawsuit are separate matters. Harvey filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on 6 June 2024, seeking at least $170 million from Netflix. Her complaint alleges, among other things, that Baby Reindeer falsely portrayed her as a twice-convicted stalker who sexually assaulted Richard Gadd. Those are allegations in a civil complaint, not established facts. The filed complaint sets out her claims and requested damages; the amount sought is not an award.
On 30 September 2024, U.S. District Judge R. Gary Klausner allowed Harvey’s defamation and intentional-infliction-of-emotional-distress claims to proceed, while dismissing negligence, publicity-rights and punitive-damages claims. The Guardian reported that the judge noted the significance of the program’s “This is a true story” opening and distinguished alleged conduct from a criminal conviction. Latest reported status of the case
A Total Apex Entertainment report dated 7 October 2026, citing Deadline, said the Ninth Circuit directed Netflix either to file a motion to voluntarily dismiss its appeal or explain why the appeal should not be dismissed. That report said the court had not decided the merits and that no trial date had been reported. It is a secondary account of a procedural order, not a ruling on the truth of Harvey’s allegations or on her eyesight. Because appellate procedure can change, the court docket is the authority for any later status.
