Finnish DJ Darude says an Australian political campaign video featuring Anthony Albanese DJing used his hit “Sandstorm” without permission. In a PerthNow interview published March 29, 2025, Darude said he had the video taken down because he did not want his music associated with a political side. He also recalled an encounter involving Kylie Minogue—and said he had never met her face-to-face.
What did Darude say about the 2022 campaign video?
Darude described the episode as a 2022 run-in in an interview with PerthNow ahead of his STORM 25 tour. According to his account, the video showed Anthony Albanese DJing and used “Sandstorm” without asking permission. The interview does not give a precise date for the video or its removal.
Darude said he had the video taken down because he did not want the track to imply a political affiliation in Australia. He told PerthNow: “And I actually had to pull it down because that was a political affiliation to my music which I don’t want to do because, I’m not into politics in Australia especially, and I don’t want to take sides like that.”
This is Darude’s account as reported by PerthNow; the interview does not independently verify the video, the permission issue or the takedown.
