Final Fantasy XVI launched for PC on September 17, 2024, on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Square Enix also released a free PC demo, and demo progress can transfer to the full game subject to a few save-data limits.
When did Final Fantasy XVI come out on PC?
Final Fantasy XVI released on PC on September 17, 2024. Square Enix announced the date on August 20, 2024, and confirmed the launch on both Steam and the Epic Games Store in its launch announcement. The date is historical, not an upcoming release. Square Enix’s August announcement and its September launch notice identify the PC storefronts.
Is there a free PC demo, and what does it include?
Square Enix announced a free demo for both PC storefronts. It covers the opening prologue, following Clive during his adolescence, and includes a separate Eikonic Challenge mode. The launch notice described the demo as containing “over two hours of content”; that is the publisher’s description, not a guaranteed playtime for every player. See Square Enix’s launch announcement.
To find it, search for FINAL FANTASY XVI DEMO on Steam or the Epic Games Store. The announcements establish those storefronts as the PC platforms, but do not establish current regional availability or prices.

Can you transfer demo progress to the full game?
Yes. Square Enix Support says demo save data can be transferred to continue progress in the full game. There are important restrictions: an existing full-game save prevents the transfer, and experience earned after reaching a demo level cap or progression limit is not saved for transfer. If a full-game save has already been created, Square Enix says it must be deleted before additional demo progress can transfer. Square Enix Support: transferring demo save data.
On Steam Deck, the transfer uses Steam Cloud. Enable Steam Cloud for both the demo and full game.

Which PC edition includes the story DLC?
The Standard Edition includes the base game. The Complete Edition adds both story chapters, Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide. Square Enix also described the DLC chapters as available individually or together through an Expansion Pass. These are the edition and purchase formats described in the 2024 announcements; current prices and storefront availability are not established here.
