Who was Pritish Nandy?
Nandy built a career across Indian journalism, literature, television, politics and screen production. PNC’s biography gives his life years as 1951–2025 and records that he received the Padma Shri in 1977 for his contribution to literature. He was also a poet and translator, though the available company biography does not provide a definitive count of his books or poems.

PNC says Nandy was Publishing Director at The Times of India Group from 1982 to 1991. During his journalism career, he edited The Illustrated Weekly of India, The Independent and Filmfare. He also hosted The Pritish Nandy Show on Doordarshan, known for its interviews.

Nandy founded Pritish Nandy Communications in 1993. The company, now PNC Media and Entertainment Limited, says it became one of the first Indian media and entertainment companies listed on the BSE and NSE in 2000. Its official biography credits him with producing films including Kaante, Jhankaar Beats, Chameli, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Shabd and Pyaar Ke Side Effects, as well as streaming projects such as Four More Shots Please! and Modern Love Mumbai. Nandy served in India’s Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament, from 1998 to 2004, according to PNC. The company also records that he cofounded People for Animals, an animal-welfare organization.
