Torres won; her mother had been nominated
At the 82nd Annual Golden Globes on January 5, 2025, Torres received the award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for I’m Still Here. The ceremony’s winners list, published January 6, specifies that the awards recognized work for the year ended December 31, 2024; this was the 2025 ceremony, not a 2024 ceremony. The official winners list records Torres’s win.

Montenegro’s Golden Globes history is different: she was nominated for Central Station, rather than winning the same award as her daughter. The Golden Globes’ profile of Torres notes both the earlier nomination and Torres’s win.
Torres dedicated the award to Montenegro
In her acceptance speech, Torres said, “I want to dedicate it to my mother. You have no idea. She was here 25 years ago. And this is like proof that art can endure.” The Associated Press reported the speech on January 5, 2025. Torres’s “25 years” refers to the interval she invoked between her mother’s earlier Golden Globes appearance and her own win; it is her recollection, not a general statistic. Mother and daughter share a role in I’m Still Here
The family link extends beyond the award. The Golden Globes profile says Torres plays Eunice in I’m Still Here, while Montenegro portrays the older version of the character. Directed by Walter Salles, the film is set in Brazil in 1971, during the military dictatorship. The official film page identifies Sony Pictures Classics as its U.S. distributor and Sony Pictures as its Brazil distributor.
