Fantasy Park is described in later recollections as a prerecorded radio “fantasy concert,” not a festival where 47 bands played in person for 48 hours. The advertised or reported figures, its association with the July 4 weekend of 1975, and Rod Serling’s reported role remain unverified in the available account.
Was Fantasy Park a real concert?
Not in the usual sense of a live, in-person festival. Participants in a retrospective AnandTech forum discussion described Fantasy Park as a radio production assembled from existing recordings, some reportedly studio recordings and some live recordings. One participant said crowd noise was overdubbed. Those recollections suggest a constructed concert experience for radio listeners rather than 47 bands performing together at a physical venue.

The distinction matters: a recording of a live performance is not evidence that the performance took place as part of a Fantasy Park festival. The forum discussion does not provide production documents or a verified set list establishing that the named artists appeared at an actual event.
What is known about the 1975 broadcast?
The opening post in the thread, started March 26, 2015, says the writer had read that Rod Serling co-hosted a 48-hour concert “of sorts” over the July 4 weekend in 1975, shortly before Serling died. A former KTFM/KTSA station custodian later recalled that the prerecorded production aired on KTFM in San Antonio in summer 1975 and was broadcast on a series of tapes.

These are forum participants’ claims and memories, not independently corroborated station records. The precise broadcast dates, Serling’s role, and the station history therefore remain unconfirmed. The figures “47 bands” and “48 hours” should likewise be treated as advertised or reported claims, not verified counts or duration.
What did listeners and station staff recall?
A reported off-air recording
One participant recalled having a two-hour, seven-inch audio reel recorded off air from Q105 Tampa, containing Bob Dylan and Beatles material. That recollection does not establish a complete program, an authoritative track list, or that those artists performed at a Fantasy Park gathering.

Copies made at KTFM
The former station custodian said he and his brother copied as much of the broadcast as they could onto cassette tapes. He later lent the tapes for duplication and did not get them back. In a later reply, he said he believed copies had also been held by the station’s program director. This is a first-person recollection, but no station inventory or catalog record is provided to confirm the copies’ existence or present location.
A promotional clip
The original poster said they had found an 18-minute promotional item offered by a website. The thread does not independently establish the clip’s provenance or whether it remains available.

Can you still hear the full Fantasy Park broadcast?
The discussion documents memories of partial recordings—a promotional item reportedly lasting 18 minutes, a two-hour off-air reel, and cassette copies—but does not establish that a complete 48-hour master survives or that an authorized copy is currently available. It also does not identify an official Fantasy Park release. Claims that the complete broadcast can be heard should be checked against a clearly identified, cataloged source rather than inferred from reports of partial tapes.
How could the story be verified?
Evidence closer to the broadcast would carry more weight than memories posted decades later. A contemporary newspaper advertisement could clarify how the event was promoted; KTFM broadcast logs or production paperwork could establish scheduling and station details; and a surviving tape with documented provenance could help establish the program’s content and duration. An archive catalog entry could show whether a copy is held and what portion it contains. The AnandTech thread itself is a user-generated discussion, not an official history.
