In the first trailer for James Gunn’s Superman, David Corenswet’s hero lies curled in a crater after a fall. Fans recognized a resemblance to Yamcha’s famously defeated pose from Dragon Ball—a funny crossover comparison, though the reporting on the trailer leaves open whether the similarity was intentional.
The Superman–Yamcha pose comparison
The visual gag is simple: Superman is down in a crater, his body curled into a fetal position. Viewers compared the image to Yamcha, the Dragon Ball character remembered for a similar pose. The resemblance struck fans as a recognizable nod between two very different superhero worlds.
The comparison was reported by CBR in an article indexed by IMDb on December 19, 2024: “Fans Spot a Sneaky Dragon Ball Easter Egg in First Superman Trailer (& It’s Hilarious)”.
Is it a confirmed Dragon Ball Easter egg?
No confirmation is established in that report. It describes the resemblance and notes that whether the pose was intentional is debatable. So “Yamcha pose” or “Yamcha Death Pose” works as a description of what fans saw, but the image should not be presented as a confirmed Easter egg or as a choice James Gunn has explained.

Where to revisit Dragon Ball Z
Readers who want to revisit the franchise can browse VIZ’s official Dragon Ball Z manga catalog. VIZ lists the series and print editions, with retailer options that include Amazon. The available listing does not establish which volume contains Yamcha’s pose, so it is better to browse the catalog than assume a particular edition includes the scene.

The joke depends on a quickly recognizable silhouette: a character down in a crater, folded into a pose fans associate with Yamcha. For viewers familiar with both franchises, that visual overlap turns Superman’s rough landing into a crossover gag—whether or not it was designed as one.
