FKA twigs and Shia LaBeouf have settled a lawsuit over nondisclosure provisions in their 2025 settlement of her original case. In an October 2026 notice, twigs said LaBeouf had agreed that those provisions were “terminated and void.” The notice resolves the later NDA dispute; it is not a court ruling on the original allegations or on whether the provisions were unlawful.
There were two lawsuits, not one
The original case concerned allegations about twigs’ relationship with LaBeouf. The later case concerned the confidentiality provisions in the settlement of that original lawsuit. Keeping the matters separate is important: the October 2026 notice addressed the NDA dispute, not the merits of the 2020 allegations.

What happened in the original case?
Barnett filed the original lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court in December 2020, alleging sexual battery, assault and emotional distress. Those were allegations in a complaint; the cited reporting does not describe a trial or a court finding that established them.
In July 2025, the parties settled the case out of court. Barnett requested dismissal with prejudice, a procedural step that prevents the original claims from being brought again. The settlement was private, and the fact that the parties settled does not by itself establish an admission of liability. [Court House News]

The parties’ lawyers issued a joint statement: “Committed to forging a constructive path forward, we have agreed to settle our case out of court.” It also said the settlement details would remain private and expressed wishes for “personal happiness, professional success and peace in the future.” [People]
Why was there a second lawsuit?
In March 2026, Barnett filed a separate lawsuit arguing that the nondisclosure provisions in the earlier settlement were unlawful under California law. LaBeouf’s attorney disputed her characterization and said Barnett had chosen to settle the original case. Those were the sides’ stated positions, not a court’s resolution of the legal question. What does the October 2026 settlement change?
Barnett’s October notice of settlement and request for dismissal said LaBeouf had agreed that the nondisclosure provisions from the 2025 settlement were “terminated and void.” That is the reported agreement between the parties. It should not be described as a judge declaring the provisions illegal: the notice reports a settlement of the NDA lawsuit, not a ruling after litigation. [Rolling Stone]
LaBeouf’s attorney, Shawn Holley, said: “Shia wishes Twigs nothing but the best in her life and career and, to that end, has agreed to end their long-standing dispute.” Barnett’s attorney, Mathew Rosengart, characterized the result as freeing her to speak about her experience and advocate for other women.
