Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor attended the christening of his granddaughter Athena Mapelli Mozzi on 12 December 2025, according to contemporary reports. The private service took place at the Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace, in London. It was described as his first royal event since he stopped using his titles, but it was a family occasion—not a scheduled public engagement or official royal duty.

What happened at Athena’s christening?

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, attended the christening of Athena Mapelli Mozzi, the daughter of Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, on 12 December 2025. Contemporary reporting placed the service at the Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace, London. The reports establish his attendance; they do not establish that he was photographed arriving at the palace. Why was it called his first royal event since losing his titles?

The description refers to the timing: the christening was reported as his first royal-palace visit or royal event since the changes to his titles and honours. “Royal event” is journalistic shorthand here. The event itself was reported as a private family christening, not a formal public appearance or an official engagement.

What changed about Andrew’s titles and honours?

The changes unfolded in several stages. On 17 October 2025, Andrew said that, with the King’s agreement, he would no longer use his title or honours. Buckingham Palace announced on 30 October that the King had initiated a formal process to remove his style, titles and honours, and said he would be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. A royal warrant that day directed his removal from the Roll of the Peerage with immediate effect. Buckingham Palace statement The Gazette: royal warrant

In its 30 October announcement, Buckingham Palace said: “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew.
