The phone number shown in Fallout season one, episode six is 213-25-VAULT, or 213-258-2858 on a phone keypad. It appears in a Vault-Tec sales pitch, turning a fictional ad into an interactive Easter egg. Reports describe different call recordings at different times, so its current response is unverified.
What is the Fallout Vault-Tec phone number?
During a Vault-Tec advertisement in season one, episode six, Cooper Howard pitches the company’s vault residences and invites viewers to call 213-25-VAULT. Converting the letters to keypad digits gives 213-258-2858. The number and scene are described in Gizmodo’s April 2024 report.
What happens when callers contact it?
The reported response changed over time. In April 2024, Gizmodo and ComicBook.com said that calls played a short burst of screams. Gizmodo also reported a text reply saying the next appointment was 33 weeks away, along with an invitation to receive marketing texts. These are historical reports, not a promise of what a caller will hear or receive now. Gizmodo and ComicBook.com covered the original response.
On December 16, 2025, Nerdist reported that the call recording had changed: it introduced Bud Askins, then played disturbing sounds and screaming. The outlet also said the text reply was still the 33-week message at that time. That account describes the line as reported then; it does not establish its status on October 8, 2026. Is it an Easter egg or a critique of capitalism?
The Easter egg
In the straightforward sense, it is an interactive Easter egg: the show places a real-world phone number in an advertisement and invites viewers to engage beyond the episode. The reported phone and text responses extend the joke, though the call recording has varied over time.
The satire
The scene also supports a critique-of-capitalism reading. Vault-Tec presents safety and survival as products for sale while catastrophic danger looms. The polished pitch sits uneasily beside the distressing sounds reported on the line, making the contrast itself part of the gag. This is an interpretation of the scene and its reported responses, not a confirmed statement of the creators’ intent.

Does the number refer to an older Fallout promotion?
There is an earlier Vault-Tec promotional-number precedent: Fallout community-reference material documents 1-888-4-VAULT-TEC in connection with game-era promotion. That makes a callback possible, but it does not prove the television number was designed to refer to it. Gizmodo likewise treated the connection as uncertain. The earlier number is documented in Fallout community reference material; it is context, not confirmation of intent.
