If you want to follow the modern Insomniac Spider-Man story, play Marvel’s Spider-Man first, then Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and finish with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. That is the narrative order PlayStation recommends; it is not a ranking of every Spider-Man game ever made.
What order should you play the Insomniac Spider-Man games?
The three games form a connected story about Peter Parker and Miles Morales. PlayStation says Miles Morales takes place a year after the first game, while Spider-Man 2 follows about nine months after Miles Morales. The sequence below preserves those character and story developments. PlayStation’s franchise guide recommends the same order.

Which Spider-Man game should you choose if you only want one?
Choose the first game for the best story starting point
Marvel’s Spider-Man introduces this version of Peter Parker and the world the later games build on. Its Remastered edition is available on PS5 and PC; the PS4 Game of the Year Edition is another route into the story. PlayStation says both of those editions include The City That Never Sleeps expansion. Steam describes the PC Remastered release as a Peter Parker story with three post-story chapters.

Choose Miles Morales for a focused middle chapter
Miles Morales is not a replacement edition of the first game. It is the next story, with Miles taking the lead after being mentored by Peter. Choosing it alone means entering the arc between Peter’s introduction and the story of Spider-Man 2.
Choose Spider-Man 2 for both heroes and the later chapter
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 brings Peter and Miles together as playable Spider-Men. It is the natural choice if you specifically want the later chapter and both heroes, though it comes after the stories that introduce them. Steam says its open-world exploration lets players switch between Peter and Miles and adds Brooklyn, Queens, and Coney Island to the map.

What should you know before choosing a platform or edition?
On PlayStation
The first story has distinct PS4 Game of the Year and PS5 Remastered editions; the names matter when comparing listings. If you are considering the Miles Morales PS5 Ultimate Edition, Insomniac says it includes Spider-Man Remastered. A buyer with the PS4 disc needs a PS5 with a disc drive to use the free upgrade offer. Check the current edition description and regional store listing before buying.
On PC
The three central games are listed for PC as well as PS5 in PlayStation’s franchise guide. For Spider-Man 2, Sony announced a PC launch on January 30, 2025 through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Steam lists full mouse-and-keyboard support as well as DualSense support, so a controller is optional. Wired USB is required to access the full range of DualSense controller features on PC. This recommendation is specifically for newcomers who want the connected Insomniac/PlayStation story. It does not establish which Spider-Man game is best by combat, length, reviews, or value, and it does not rank the wider history of Spider-Man games.
