MAYHEM is the seventh studio album, according to its label, Universal Music Canada. The label announced it on Jan. 27, 2025, and released it through Interscope Records on March 7, 2025. The Associated Press independently reported the title, release date, 14-track count and broad themes in its Jan. 27, 2025 coverage. Its chart references are snapshots from that date: “Disease” had reached No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100, while “Die With a Smile,” Gaga’s collaboration with Bruno Mars, had spent three weeks at No. 1. What does MAYHEM sound like?
The album’s description as a return to Gaga’s pop roots comes from the label, which also says it draws on her early sound and wider musical influences while seeking a new artistic perspective. The label frames the record around chaos, transformation, artistic freedom and contradiction. That is the project’s official positioning, not a neutral critical consensus.

Gaga described the starting point as “facing my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved.” She also compared the creative process to “reassembling a shattered mirror,” saying that even imperfectly restored pieces could become “something beautiful and whole in its own new way.” Universal Music Canada’s album announcement.
The label’s track descriptions point to a deliberately varied set of references: industrial pop and introspection on “Disease”; 2000s pop and electro-grunge guitar on “Garden of Eden”; rock-inflected defiance on “Perfect Celebrity”; theatrical, Bowie-inspired elements on “Vanish Into You”; funk mixed with industrial and electronic sounds on “Killah” and “Zombieboy”; and dark disco on “LoveDrug.” These are the label’s characterizations rather than independent track-by-track analysis.
