The clearest direct comments Taylor Frankie Paul made about her 2023 arrest in the sources documented here came in a September 2024 interview, before video of the altercation was released publicly. She described the night as a low point that she felt helped her move out of a rut and deep depression. After the video surfaced in March 2026, the comments reported about her response came from a representative, not directly from Paul.
What Taylor Frankie Paul said about the night
In a September 6, 2024 Axios interview, Paul reflected on the night of her arrest while discussing events covered on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Axios said her answers were edited for length and clarity. Paul said: “I feel like that night had to happen to help me … [to] get out of whatever rut I was in, like, a deep depression.”
In the same answer, she said, “When you hit rock bottom, there’s only one way to go.” She also said she did not want to describe it that way, but that the night “helped me.” These are her retrospective comments about what the experience meant to her; they are not a detailed account of the incident or a response to the later-released video.
What her representative said after the video was released
In March 2026, the Associated Press reported that TMZ had published video of the 2023 altercation. The AP said a representative for Paul stated that she had remained silent out of fear of further abuse, retaliation, and public shaming, and that she was seeking support and preparing to share her story. Those remarks were attributed to her representative; they should not be presented as a direct statement by Paul.

The AP also reported that Mortensen denied the claims made against him. The representative’s account and Mortensen’s denial are each attributed positions, not findings independently established by those statements.
What was reported about the arrest and case
Herriman police arrested Paul on February 17, 2023, after responding to a domestic-violence call in Utah. CBS News reported in March 2023 that court records and a police statement described allegations that Paul hit her boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, and threw metal chairs, one of which struck her five-year-old daughter. These were allegations in the probable-cause account, not a final adjudication of every reported detail.

CBS reported felony charges including aggravated assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child, as well as misdemeanor child-abuse and criminal-mischief counts. The later reporting on the disposition differs from the status described at the time:
- September 2024: Axios reported that Paul had pleaded guilty in abeyance to one count of aggravated assault.
- March 2026: The AP reported that Paul pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and that the other counts were dismissed.
These are the accounts reported at different dates. The earlier plea-in-abeyance description should not be substituted for the AP’s later account of the disposition.

What the video’s release changed
The AP described the video as showing Paul punching, kicking, and throwing chairs at Mortensen while her young daughter watched and cried. The footage is one part of the record; its release does not by itself establish every disputed allegation or either party’s broader account.
The AP also reported that ABC decided not to proceed “at this time” with Paul’s already-filmed season of The Bachelorette. Disney Entertainment Television said its focus was on supporting the family. This was the network’s response to the newly released video, not a new direct comment from Paul about the arrest.

What is documented—and what is not
The statements documented in these reports support a narrow answer: Paul spoke in 2024 about the arrest night as a painful low point that she felt helped her leave a rut and deep depression. After the 2026 video release, reporting captured a statement from her representative about why she had stayed silent and her plans to seek support and speak about her experience. The cited reports do not establish a comprehensive archive of everything Paul has said about the incident, nor do they document a direct post-release statement from her addressing the footage.
