Susan Sarandon remembered Brad Pitt as “fun and relaxed and inventive” on Thelma & Louise. Angelina Jolie, speaking about two films they made together, described joy and teamwork on Mr. & Mrs. Smith and praised his acting on By the Sea. These are selected, film-specific comments from two of Pitt’s female costars—not a complete survey of everyone who has worked with him.
What Susan Sarandon said about working with Pitt on Thelma & Louise
Sarandon, who played Louise in the 1991 film, recalled Pitt’s work as J.D., the young man who becomes involved with Geena Davis’s Thelma. In a 2021 interview with Us Weekly, Sarandon said, “It was clear that he was fun and relaxed and inventive.”
She also praised what he contributed beyond the written role, describing him as a character actor and saying he did not rely on his appearance: “He didn’t try to get by on his good looks.” These are Sarandon’s recollections; they should not be attributed to Davis.
What Angelina Jolie said about working with Pitt on Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Jolie described Pitt as different from the distant impression she had formed through media coverage. Recalling the 2005 film’s scenes, discussions, gun practice, dance classes and stunts, she said the work brought them closer. In comments from a Vogue interview excerpted by CBS News in 2006, she said, “I think we found this strange friendship and partnership that kind of just suddenly happened.”

Jolie also recalled that they “found a lot of joy in it together and a lot of real teamwork.” Her remarks describe the collaboration that developed during the shoot, rather than making a general claim about Pitt’s work with every costar.
What Jolie said about Pitt’s performance in By the Sea
For the 2015 drama, Jolie wrote and directed the film and starred opposite Pitt. At its premiere, she told Entertainment Tonight that she felt fortunate to work with him: “He’s obviously an extraordinary actor so I felt very, very lucky.” She added that she felt privileged he was comfortable enough with her to perform openly.

The film’s relationship drama should not be treated as a report about the couple’s private life. Jolie said it was not autobiographical, telling Vanity Fair that their own issues were not the same as the characters’ problems.

Together, Sarandon’s and Jolie’s remarks offer three distinct perspectives: Sarandon praised Pitt’s inventiveness and character work; Jolie recalled teamwork and a growing partnership during Mr. & Mrs. Smith; and she praised his acting and openness on By the Sea. They are specific recollections tied to particular productions, not a comprehensive account of how all of Pitt’s female costars viewed working with him.
