India Hicks and David Flint Wood married at Brightwell Baldwin Parish Church in Oxfordshire on 10 September 2021, after more than two decades together. Hicks chose a traditional church ceremony rooted in family history, followed by lunch at the Lord Nelson pub; dinner and dancing had taken place the night before. The couple later held a separate, intimate ceremony at their Harbour Island home in the Bahamas on 27 December 2021.
Why India Hicks and David Flint Wood married after 26 years together
Hicks described the decision as a response to the unsettled period of the pandemic. “After such a bewildering 18 months, I felt a longing for something reassuring, something anchoring,” she wrote in her first-person account for British Vogue on 12 September 2021. She said the thought of marriage came to her after supper at home, and she raised it with Flint Wood.
She framed the ceremony as a contrast to the couple’s long, unconventional life together: “Having lived an unconventional life together for more than two decades, we decided our wedding should, by contrast, be very traditional.” For Hicks, that meant a church service shaped by family memory rather than a destination spectacle.
Where the English wedding took place
The ceremony was held at Brightwell Baldwin Parish Church on 10 September 2021. Hicks chose it because she had been christened there, her father is buried there, and it is close to her mother’s home, where she grew up. Her account describes a service with a choir, organist, hymns, family readings and church bells. Contemporary coverage also places the wedding in Brightwell Baldwin and confirms the date, including People’s report syndicated by Yahoo.

How the celebration unfolded
Dinner and dancing came first
Rather than follow the familiar ceremony-then-reception sequence, the couple held dinner and dancing in a field under a tent on the evening before the church service. The next day, guests attended the ceremony and then crossed the road to the Lord Nelson pub for lunch, Bloody Marys and Pimm’s.

Local food and flowers
In her account, Hicks credits local contributors with helping shape the gathering. She says baker Kitty made 100 brioche rolls, while Nettlebed Creamery supplied cheese and Flea St. George made sourdough. The 100-roll figure is Hicks’s own reported event detail, not an independently audited count.
Hicks says Pulbrook & Gould created her bouquet, connecting it to family history: the florist had also arranged her mother’s wedding bouquet. The florist independently confirms its involvement and describes cream-colored flowers with pale blue notes. Hicks’s own account provides a more varied, fragrant flower list; those specific ingredients are her description of the arrangement.

Who designed India Hicks’s wedding dress
Hicks worked with her friend, British designer Emilia Wickstead, to create the gown. She brought Wickstead an ivory French lace swatch and described the idea as “a little Grace Kelly-esque but with a definite modern twist.” The resulting dress had a high neckline, a shaped waistband, a sculptural form and a voluminous skirt.
Hicks emphasized both the look and the practical fit, including her wish to be able to zip the dress herself. “I wanted to work with an English designer, and she’s a friend and I knew she would understand my body type and the simplicity of the dress that I wanted,” she said in her first-person wedding account. The gown was made for her, rather than presented as a ready-to-buy dress.

How the couple’s children participated
Their five children had active roles in the wedding. Their daughter Domino was chief bridesmaid; Wesley drove Hicks to church in Flint Wood’s 1966 Mercedes Cabriolet; and Felix walked her down the aisle. Family members also took part in readings and the celebrations. These details come from Hicks’s wedding account and her British Vogue account.
The later ceremony on Harbour Island
On 27 December 2021, Hicks and Flint Wood held a second, intimate ceremony at their home on Harbour Island in the Bahamas. Over The Moon’s February 2022 coverage presents the island gathering as a sequel to the September wedding. It is a distinct event, not the location or date of the Oxfordshire church ceremony.
