Spoilers for the Season 2 finale. The broadcast left out a heated Temple discussion, moments of tension and humor, and David Genat’s startling claim that he would have switched cases before the final amounts were revealed. In an on-set account by Entertainment Weekly’s Dalton Ross, Genat says that switch would have moved him from a case containing $75 to one containing $12,232,001—but he accepted the Banker’s $5.8 million offer instead.
What the broadcast left out
Season 2’s 43-minute finale, “The Final Deal,” could not include everything filmed, Ross reports. His account describes a Temple discussion that moved between confrontation and camaraderie, as well as visible tension while Genat weighed the Banker’s offers. The details below are Ross’s account of filming, including remarks and reactions that were not all included in the episode.
In the Temple, Phillip Solomon challenged Courtney Kim, known as CK, over what he described as assumptions about his financial status based on race. Ross reports that Solomon told her, “Your unconscious bias has been disgusting.” Kim denied the accusation. The report presents this as a dispute within the cast’s discussion, not as an independently established finding about either person.
Ross also describes friction between Kim and other players, comments to Genat about his history on Australia’s Survivor, and discussion of Genat’s relationship with Parvati Shallow. These were cast remarks during the filmed competition, as described in Ross’s report.

Genat’s reported case-switch claim
The most striking omitted detail came before the last two case amounts were revealed. Ross reports that Genat told host Joe Manganiello he would have switched from case 18 to case 7. Asked to explain, Genat said, “I know things.”
According to Ross, case 7 held $12,232,001, while Genat’s original case 18 held $75. That is a reported what-if, not a switch that happened in the broadcast: Genat accepted the Banker’s $5.8 million offer rather than changing cases and revealing the outcome.

The offers Genat rejected before taking the deal
Ross reports that Genat turned down four earlier offers as the game continued. The reported figures and final decision were:
| Moment | Reported amount |
|---|---|
| First offer listed in Ross’s account | $1,520,000 |
| Second offer listed in Ross’s account | $1,980,000 |
| Third offer listed in Ross’s account | $2,900,000 |
| Fourth offer listed in Ross’s account | $3,870,018 |
| Accepted offer | $5.8 million |
Ross describes Chrissy Teigen, the Banker, reacting to an earlier rejection with, “I’m gonna vomit.” He also recounts cast and crew reactions as Genat kept playing, along with Genat pacing and celebrating. The amounts and on-set remarks are from Ross’s report of filming, rather than an independently checked production record.

The lighter moments in the Temple and on set
The report’s account was not all conflict. Manganiello presented Luke Olejniczak with a dollar bill, and cast members later sang the chorus of the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way.” Manganiello’s reported plea, “We need a three-hour finale!”, summed up how much more material Ross says was filmed than made the broadcast.
