What is Campaign 4 about?
Campaign Four moves Critical Role’s story to Aramán, beyond the earlier Exandria setting. Its opening premise centers on Thjazi Fang, who is marked for execution, and the people from across his life who converge to uncover the truth behind his fate. The world’s backdrop includes the fallout of dead gods and a rebellion. Critical Role’s campaign announcement describes the premise.
#1 Best Overall
- First major D&D adventure book within Critical Role’s world of Exandria, taking players from levels 3–12
- Multi-continental story that spans the scarred Wastes of Xhorhas, introduces the continent of Marquet, and eventually plunges players into the Netherdeep—a terrifying cross between the Far Realm and the deep ocean
- Bursting with lore and all new art depicting Exandria
- Includes a poster map of Ank’Harel
- Adds magic items, creatures, and introduces rival NPCs
What rules and format does Campaign 4 use?
Critical Role announced that the campaign would use the 2024 Dungeons & Dragons rules and a West Marches-style structure. The first four episodes were described as an Overture; after that, players would rotate among three tables named the Soldiers, the Seekers, and the Schemers. Those labels describe the announced format, not fixed player assignments: consult current episode credits for who appears in a particular episode.
In its August 21, 2025 announcement, Critical Role wrote, “We’ll also be switching the format of Campaign Four to a West Marches style campaign!” The page’s byline is “Written by Brittney”; it does not provide a surname or a more specific speaking role.
